2014JAUIP Seminar Participants Visit the IP High Court

On August 29, 2014, participants in the Summer English Seminar on Intellectual Property 2014 provided by the IP Graduate School Union in Tokyo, titled "The Future of Intellectual Property in Asia," visited the IP High Court. This seminar was organized by the Japan Association of Universities for Intellectual Property Education and Research (JAUIP). After seeing the courtroom, approximately 40 visitors, mainly from various countries in Asia, including Japan, listened to an explanation by Chief Judge Ryuichi Shitara of the history of the IP High Court and the range of cases it handles, as well as of statistical data on such cases. He also provided a detailed explanation of such topics as the relationship between the defense of invalidity raised before the court and the invalidation proceedings conducted before the Japan Patent Office (JPO), and the recent judgments of the Grand Panel cases. Subsequently, the Chief Judge and the participants engaged in a lively Q&A session.
