On July 24 and 25, 2015 (local time), Judge Kazuhide Shimasue of the Tokyo District Court attended an international conference entitled the “2015 High Technology Protection Summit” hosted by the Center for Advanced Study and Research on Intellectual Property (“CASRIP”), which is affiliated with the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington State, U.S.A.

Judge Shimasue participated as a speaker in the “Patent and Trade Secret Interface: Developments in the U.S., Europe, and Asia” session. He gave a presentation entitled “Enforcing Trade Secrets at Japanese Courts,” about the Unfair Competition Prevention Act in terms of measures for the protection of trade secrets and other matters in Japan. In this session, following the Judge Shimasue’s presentation, lawyers from Japan, China, Germany, and the U.S. gave presentations concerning the status of and legal system for the protection of trade secrets in their respective countries.
