Visit by Chairman of International Trademark Association, and Others

On October 25, 2016, Mr. Ronald van Tuijl, President and Chair of the Board of Directors of the International Trademark Association (INTA), and others visited the IP High Court. The INTA, consisting of trademark owners and professionals, is a global association dedicated to supporting trademarks and related intellectual property in order to protect consumers and to promote fair and effective commerce.

Chief Judge Ryuichi Shitara gave a general explanation regarding the situation of litigation related to trademark infringements and the suits against appeal/trial decisions made by the JPO on trademark rights in Japan, as well as a brief introduction of recent trademark cases decided by the IP High Court. Mr. Ronald van Tuijl in return explained the situation of INTA’s activities. After that, they actively exchanged their opinions on each explanations.
