Participation in 2016 International IP Court Conference in Korea
On September 7 and 8, 2016, the 2016 International IP Court Conference was held at the Patent Court of Korea in Daejeon, Korea. Presiding Judge Makiko Takabe from the IP High Court participated in the conference.
The conference was hosted by the Patent Court of Korea, and judges and lawyers who engage in IP cases from Korea, the U.S., Europe, China, and Japan as well as university professors participated as panelists. The conference was held for two days, and sessions were held on eight themes, i.e., “The Future of the IP Court: International Chamber and Interregional Court,” “Challenges and Innovation in IP Litigation,” “Remedies: Damages from Legal & Economic Perspective,” “Alternative Dispute Resolutions in IP Disputes,” “Evidence Issues in Patent Litigation,” “Patent Litigation Practices: United States,” “Patent Litigation Practices: Asia,” and “Patent Litigation Practices: Europe.” The panelists introduced the current status in each country and exchanged opinions with other panelists. Many legal professionals, mainly judges and lawyers from Korea, observed the sessions.
Presiding Judge Takabe participated as a panelist in three sessions entitled “Remedies: Damages from Legal & Economic Perspective”, “Evidence Issues in Patent Litigation”, and “Patent Litigation Practices: Asia”, concretely introduced the current status of the IP litigation in Japan including procedures for collection of evidence and theory of damage, and furthermore exchanged opinions with other panelists.
