Visit by JAUIP Seminar Participants
On August 5, 2016, participants in the Student Course and Practitioner Course of the 2016 Summer English Seminar of Intellectual Property provided by the Japan Association of Universities for Intellectual Property Education and Research (JAUIP) (10 people including practitioners and students from Asian and Latin American countries) visited the IP High Court.
The participants received an explanation on the general outline of the IP litigations in Japan, the judicial research officials system and technical advisors system, defense of patent invalidity, the relationship between infringement lawsuits and suits against appeal/trial decisions made by the JPO, and other matters from Judge Motoyuki Nakashima. In a Q&A session, the participants actively asked questions on the procedures for election, the term, and others of technical advisors, the number of cases handled at the IP High Court, criteria for determining the international jurisdiction over the patent infringement lawsuits, and other matters.
