2016_WCO

On May 9, 2016, international students from the overseas study program of the World Customs Organization (WCO) (19 customs officers from 17 countries worldwide) visited the IP High Court as a part of a lecture on “Border Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights”, which is one of the subjects of the program.

After touring the Court facilities with guides of judges of the Second Division and a judicial research official of the IP High Court, the students were given an explanation of the court system pertaining to the intellectual property in Japan from the Second Division Presiding Judge Misao Shimizu. Presiding Judge Shimizu explained how responses should be made to cases in which a special expertise matter becomes an issue including the utilization of judicial research officials system and technical advisors system and the IP High Court’s creative efforts towards litigations in which the technical content becomes a point of dispute, in addition to the judicial procedures at the IP High Court such as brief overview of IP litigations. The students appeared interested in the round-table courtrooms equipped with TV-Conference System and ways to acquire and utilize expert knowledge.
