On September 21, 2017, Chief Justice Nguyen Hoa Binh of the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam and seven other members visited the IP High Court. After greetings by Chief Justice Nguyen and Chief Judge Misao Shimizu, Chief Judge Shimizu explained, among other topics, characteristics of the IP High Court and IP lawsuits in Japan. This was followed by a number of questions asked by Chief Justice Nguyen regarding details of the above explanation, mainly concerning the conditions of establishment of IP courts in all other parts of the world, the handling of criminal cases involving IP, and the number of IP cases commenced in the IP High Court. After a lively question-and-answer session, the group toured the Courtroom of the Grand Panel and received from Judge Motoyuki Nakashima a summary of the Grand Panel system as well as an explanation about courtroom usage in the Courthouse and other topics.
