IPEC Judge and CIPA President from Britain Visit IP High Court
A party of fourteen persons, including Mr. Richard Hacon, presiding judge of the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court (IPEC) of Britain, and Mr. Tony Rollins, President of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA) of Britain, visited the IP High Court on March 16, 2017. After greetings by Mr. Misao Shimizu, Chief Judge of the IP High Court of Japan, and Judge Richard Hacon, participants from both countries actively exchanged opinions on a number of topics. These included the scope of the exclusive jurisdiction of the IP High Court, the details of the judicial research officials system and the technical advisors system, types of pending cases and percentage thereof in the total number of cases, criterion of cases that are dealt with by the Grand Panel, the number of final appeals, the method for assigning cases to judges, the binding effect of the Supreme Court’s judgments, and International Judicial Symposium on Intellectual Property 2017 (provisional title) which will be hosted by the IP High Court
