Visit by WIPO Seminar Participants

On April 14, 2017, twelve participants of the seminar on the Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights held by WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) from Egypt, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Vietnam, who are mainly judges dealing with the cases of intellectual properties, visited the IP High Court.

After receiving a greeting by Chief Judge Misao Shimizu, the party took a tour of the court facilities, followed by an explanation from Judge Motoyuki Nakashima on the outline of intellectual property litigation in Japan, the systems of judicial research officials and technical advisors, the relationship between IP infringement suits and suits to seek rescission of the JPO(Japan Patent Office) decisions, and the contents of the English translated IP judgments organized by topic and posted on the Website of the IP High Court. The seminar participants asked questions on various topics including the caseload of one judge at the IP High Court, the current practice on the examination of witnesses, technical fields involved in patent cases, and the binding effect of judgment of the IP High Court.
