Visit by JICA/WIPO Trainees
On July 9, 2018, three JICA/WIPO trainees at the Graduate School of Intellectual Property, Osaka Institute of Technology, visited the IP High Court.
After observing a case in a courtroom, the trainees were given a briefing by Fourth Division Presiding Judge Ichiro Otaka, Judge Masaru Yamakado, and Judge Takuya Hazui on the outline of the case, the exclusive jurisdiction over patent lawsuits, and the practice of technical explanatory sessions. The trainees also asked questions on a variety of topics, including the method for introducing expert technical knowledge and the average time required for proceedings in the IP High Court. The trainees then took a tour of the court building, receiving an explanation from a judicial research official on the roles of judicial research officials in IP-related cases.
