On May 13, 2019, a delegation of lawyers from the International Law Section of the State Bar of California, consisting of Mr. Neil Popovich, Ms. Harumi Hata, and Mr. Charles Kaufman, visited the IP High Court, along with Mr. Yoshihiro Takatori and other lawyers from the Dai-Ichi Tokyo Bar Association. After hearing an explanation on the IP High Court from Chief Judge Makiko Takabe, the guests engaged in an active exchange of opinions with Chief Judge Takabe and Judge Daisuke Kumagai with regard to a wide range of topics including the current status of IP litigation in Japan and ADR proceedings of IP cases in the State of California, differences between Japanese and US systems for handling IP disputes, and the relationship between ADR and litigation proceedings.
