Visit by Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India, and Others
On May 19, 2016, a total of 12 people including Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India Tirath Singh Thakur, Justice Anil Ramesh Dave, Justice Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana and India’s attorney general Mukul Rohatgi visited the IP High Court. After greetings from Chief Justice Thakur and Chief Judge Ryuichi Shitara, Chief Judge Shitara gave a presentation on the characteristics of IP litigation in Japan entitled “Intellectual Property Litigations in Japan and its Development”. The presentation was followed by a lively exchange of questions and answers in association with the details of the presentation, including many questions from Chief Justice Thakur and others mainly about the role of settlement procedures in IP litigations and sharing of information regarding court cases both in Japan and India. Finally Chief Justice Thakur proposed to Chief Judge Shitara that they should actively promote a close exchange between judges of both countries and make active efforts toward the exchange from now on.
