The University of St. Gallen
On August 19, 2015, students (31 persons including lawyers from 9 countries) from the Tokyo module of the Master's Program in European and International Business Law at the University of St. Gallen visited the IP High Court.
They received from Chief Judge Ryuichi Shitara explanations on outline of intellectual property litigation in Japan, the defense of invalidity in connection with patents, and the judicial settlement procedure for patent litigation, as well as explanations on the globalization of intellectual property dispute, and other matters. The students asked a considerably large number of questions concerning the method for verification of facts, the relationship between settlement and judgment, the differences between international and domestic cases, and other matters. It was understood from these questions that the students were very interested in Japanese intellectual property litigation.
