Participation in International Conference held at Univercity of Washington,U.S-2

On July 22, 2016 (local time), Judge Masaki Sugiura of the IP High Court attended an international conference entitled “2016 GLOBAL INNOVATION LAW SUMMIT” hosted by the Center for Advanced Study & Research on Innovation Policy (CASRIP), which is an IP law research organization affiliated with the University of Washington located in Seattle, Washington State, U.S.

Judge Sugiura participated as a speaker in the session entitled “Distinguished Jurists’ Perspectives”. He gave a presentation entitled “Approach to Innovation on IP-related Litigation in Japan”(PDF3949KB), about the utilization of expert knowledge in IP-related litigations, the Grand Panel system and operational devices in terms of responses to technical and legal issues that the innovation may cause in the IP-related litigations. In this session, other judges from Taiwan, Thailand, Germany, and the U.S. gave presentations concerning the system and status in their countries, the impact of the British withdrawal from the European Union on the concept of the European Unified Patent Court and other matters.
