Two Expert Commissioners delivered lectures at the meeting of the IP Divisions Society for Study.

On March 11, 2005, Professor Manabu Kiuchi, professor emeritus of the University of Tokyo, and Professor Masanori Koshiba, professor of the Hokkaido University delivered lectures at the periodical meeting of the IP Divisions Society for Study held at the IP High Court. The members of the Society are judges and court clerks who handle intellectual property cases mainly in the area of Tokyo and Osaka.

Professor Kiuchi, under the title of "Intellectual Features of Industrial Science in Japan and its Future Direction," discussed relation of law to engineering and technology, challenges that industrial science now faces, features of industrial science in our country, necessary components for technology and knowledge to become intellectual property, needs for reconstruction of intellectual infrastructure and quality control over technology and knowledge, desirable direction of our engineering and technology to proceed in the future.

Professor Koshiba, under the title of "Intellectual Property Lawsuits from the Perspective of the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers," introduced the history, activities, current topics of the Institute and then spoke about opinions and requests for the expert commissioners system based on the actual experience by some of the Institute's members who have sat as an expert commissioner in intellectual property lawsuits.
