Judge Randall R. Rader of United States Court of Appeals for Federal Circuit and Other Distinguished Guests Visited IP High Court.

On July 4 and 5, 2005, foreign judges and patent attorneys who came to Japan to attend the Commemorative International Symposium on the Establishment of the IP High Court (organized by the Japan Patent Attorneys Association: JPAA) visited the IP High Court.

On July 4, Judge Randall R. Rader of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit visited the IP High Court and talked with Chief Judge Katsumi Shinohara and other judges of the IP High Court as well as judges of the Tokyo District Court.

On July 5, distinguished judges and lawyers who participated in the international symposium as panelists also visited the IP High Court, accompanied by JPAA staff. These guests included Judge Joachim Bornkamm of the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany, former Judge Duan Lihong of the Third Civil Trial Chamber (Intellectual Property Right Trial Chamber) of the Supreme People’s Court of P. R. China, and First Chief Judge Kong-Woong Choe of the Patent Court of Korea. They received a brief lecture from Chief Judge Katsumi Shinohara on the organization, jurisdiction, and history of the IP High Court, and then toured in the court, viewing the judges’ chambers, the offices of judicial research officials and court clerks, and the round-table courtrooms.
