Visit by JAUIP Seminar Participants to the IP High Court

On August 30, 2013, participants in the Summer English Seminar on Intellectual Property provided by the IP Graduate School Union in Tokyo, entitled "The Future of Intellectual Property in Asia," visited the IP High Court. This seminar was organized by the Japan Association of Universities for Intellectual Property Education and Research (JAUIP). The 36 visitors, which included students from Japan and other countries mainly in Asia, listened to an explanation by Chief Judge Toshiaki Iimura of the history of the IP High Court and the cases it handles, as well as statistical data on such cases. The visitors subsequently asked a number of questions of the Chief Judge in relation to administrative matters (e.g. training of judges, number of cases handled by each judge), and procedural matters (e.g. the relationship between invalidation proceedings before the Japan Patent Office (JPO) and proceedings for rescission of JPO decisions before the court).
