The Judicial Symposium on Intellectual Property/Tokyo 2021 (JSIP 2021) was held from October 20 to 22, 2021.

In order to prevent COVID-19 from infecting, judges, administrative patent judges, attorneys, etc. from foreign countries and organizations participated online. We have delivered live stream of this Symposium.

At the opening of the Symposium, Justice TOKURA Saburo of the Supreme Court delivered opening remarks on behalf of the organizers.

In the court section presented by the Intellectual Property High Court, a mock trial was performed by judges, judicial research officials and attorneys from Japan under the theme of “Indirect Infringement of Patent Right.” Subsequently, judges and attorneys from Japan, China, India and Korea held a panel discussion under the theme of “International Comparison of Indirect Infringement of Patent Right” and “Use of Expert Knowledge in Civil Litigations.”

Under the theme of “International Comparison of Indirect Infringement,” using a patent infringement suit related to a position detector as a material, we held comparative discussion with regard to the legal system and the present situation concerning indirect infringement in each country.

In addition, under the theme of “Use of Expert Knowledge in Civil Litigations,” we exchanged the latest information about the system and the practice in each country. It was a meaningful opportunity for every participant.
