- Fred Carl, Esq., Attorney Advisor –Trademarks in Tm Classification Policy & Practice, United States Patent and Trademark Office(USPTO), Department of Commerce, underwent training on Japanese judicial treatment of intellectual property at the Intellectual Property High Court from May 10 to June 1, 2022. Mr. Carl has come to Japan in July 2021 as a Mansfield Fellow.
Mr. Carl had this to say about his experience with IP High Court.
「I had the great honor of training at the Intellectual Property High Court in May, 2022. Each of the four benches of the high court made time for me and I learned a great deal from the judges, clerks, and technical experts. Japan is a very important economic partner to the United States, and intellectual property is an important part of our shared economy. Learning more about the Japanese intellectual property judicial system and seeing how the courts establish justice and protect business interests made me realize that our similarities are greater than our differences. I look forward to returning to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and sharing the knowledge I have gained here.」
