- On November 28, 2023, the Right Hon The Lord Reed of Allermuir, President of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, visited the IP High Court.
Lord Reed received an overview of the IP High Court, including its history, characteristics, and how the proceedings of IP cases are actually conducted using digital technology. He also received an explanation of the e-filing system for civil litigation documents (called "mints") and the web conference through the use of an IT booth with a demonstration. He engaged in discussion with IP High Court judges on various matters, such as how to acquire expert knowledge, devising ways to conduct proceedings including the effective use of digital technology, and work styles of judges, while confirming the common points and different points between the United Kingdom and Japan.
Lord Reed toured the building of the Business Court, including the courtroom, and exchanged opinions with the judges and court officials on a broad range of topics associated with the relationship between the court and society, such as the philosophy for designing the courtroom from the users' perspective, preparedness for disasters, and coexistence with local community.
