- On November 1, 2023, Mr. Christof Keussen, a patent attorney who is the president of the Chamber of Patent Attorneys of Germany (Patentanwaltskammer), and eight other patent attorneys visited the court building in Nakameguro.
After paying a courtesy call to Chief Judge HONDA Tomonari and touring the court building, the guests held a meeting with the judges of the IP High Court to exchange opinions regarding recent trends in the fields of intellectual property and court decisions in Japan and Germany. At the meeting, Judge IWAI Naoyuki talked about the background to the establishment of the IP High Court, the status of case processing, and the judgments recently rendered by the Grand Panel (e.g., the judgment on the Comment Distribution System Case). Next, from Patentanwaltskammer, Mr. Michael A. Dahmen explained the situation of the Unified Patent Court in Europe under the title of "Recent IP Developments." Following these presentations, the guests and the judges of the IP High Court engaged in a lively question and answer session regarding recent trends in the fields of intellectual property in Japan and Germany.
