Visit by Delegation from AIPLA

  • On April 17, 2024, a delegation from the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) visited the IP High Court, and held a discussion session with the judges of the IP High Court and the Intellectual Property Divisions of the Tokyo District Court after touring the court building. Established in 1897, AIPLA is an organization consisting of legal professionals who mainly practice IP law. This was the 34th session between Japanese courts and AIPLA.
The session began with opening remarks by Chief Judge HONDA Tomonari of the IP High Court and AIPLA President Ann M. Mueting. Then, Judge MIZUNO Masanori of the IP High Court delivered a presentation outlining the IP High Court and describing the latest judgments of the Grand Panel of the IP High Court.
Mr. Patrick J. Coyne from AIPLA gave a presentation titled "Recent Developments in U.S. Intellectual Property Law," explaining the recent important developments in the United States concerning various issues involved in intellectual property litigation, including court decisions and legislation trends.
Following these presentations, the Japanese judges and AIPLA delegates actively asked and answered questions and exchanged opinions with each other.
At the end of the session, AIPLA President Ann M. Mueting delivered a closing remark, and it was confirmed that the Japanese courts and AIPLA will deepen mutual interaction through the next and subsequent sessions.
