This year, JSIP2025 was entitled “Evolving Approaches to IP Dispute Resolution: Marking the 20th Anniversary of the IPHC” and held at the Bar Associations Building in Tokyo. The event brought together judges, administrative judges, attorneys-at-law, and other legal professionals from Japan, Republic of Korea, Europe, the United States, China, and ASEAN member states, and the entire symposium program was conducted before a large audience and live-streamed online. Many speakers at each session of the program offered their congratulations to the IP High Court as it celebrated its 20th anniversary this year.
On the first day of the symposium, the event opened with a welcome address delivered by WATANABE Eriko, Justice of the Supreme Court of Japan, on behalf of the hosts. It was followed by a plenary session, where a keynote address was jointly presented by the Chief Judge of the IP High Court and the Director-General of the Trial and Appeal Department (TAD) at the Japan Patent Office. A panel discussion on the topic “International Trends in IP Fields and the Role of Specialized IP Courts” was also held.
